Billings Community Member Highlight: Courtney Burton of RocHouse

If you follow along with any of the content here at The Real Estate Collective, you hear me talk a lot about the different communities in Billings.

The gorgeous views we have. The fun events and activities in the community. The amazing restaurants and coffee shops.

But you know the one thing that REALLY makes all of those things so great?

The people behind it all.

Because without the people, you really don’t have much.

As a real estate agent in Billings for the last 10 years and after living here almost all of my life, I’ve gotten the pleasure of meeting a LOT of people and hearing their stories.

It’s probably the best part of the job – meeting new people and hearing their love for the Billings community.

A few months ago I found myself really wanting a way to bring some of those stories and introductions to YOU.

Whether you already live in Billings, are planning to relocate or decide to pass through one day, there’s just something special about knowing people who make up the community on a deeper level.

So of course, there’s no better way to do that than through the blog.

In the Billings Community Member Highlight series, you’ll meet various business owners who I personally know and work with and I believe these people play a massive part in making Billings so amazing.

In this edition, you’ll hear from Courtney Burton, owner of RocHouse – one of my favorite places to shop in Billings!

This women's clothing store located in the West End is my go to for trendy and stylish pieces that are perfect for date nights, the boardroom (aka the closing table 😉) and casual everyday looks.

RocHouse Women’s Clothing Store in Billings, Montana

Courtney Burton has been with RocHouse for 13 years and has owned the store for 2.5 years.

The name RocHouse was inspired by the brand’s deep connection with its Rocky Mountain community, and the “Right Off Catwalk” styles of a classic fashion house.

“I believe that RocHouse brings a level of sophistication and uniqueness to Billings from our high-end designer lines from the bigger cities to our small town personal feel.”

RocHouse carries high-end women’s wear and act as personal stylists to their clients. In addition to in-store shopping, they also offer shipping and delivery services as well.

“We have events all year round, but I especially love our holiday event. The fur, leather and sequins make the magic of the holidays really come alive in the store.

This year (2023) we will host our 3rd Annual Coats & Cocktails Event where you can bring in a used coat to donate to the Montana Rescue Mission and receive 30% off of a new one.

This is such a fun event with live music, treats and drinks while debuting our newest holiday collection.” 🎄🎶🥂

“My team and I say that RocHouse is our "happy place" - our "therapy". I absolutely love coming into work everyday. How cool is that?!

Shoppers should expect the highest level of customer service when walking into RocHouse. I have the best team, who is like family to me, so you can really feel the warm and fun energy in the store.

It is our commitment to provide our customers with the best shopping experience possible and hope they leave with a smile and a really fabulous outfit!” 👗👠

And I can personally attest to that! Shopping at RocHouse is always a pleasure, you’re always met with a friendly face, and I always leave with a bag full of goodies that I’m excited to wear.

When asked what inspired Courtney to join the clothing scene in Billings, she said:

“I was born and raised in Billings, so I’ve been here my whole life. It’s home and I love that I am able to pursue my goals right here in my home community with my friends and family.”

As you’ve likely seen in other Community Member Highlights (or if you’re familiar with the Billings community at all), you’ll notice that the emphasis on community is a HUGE theme and it’s clear that everyone feels it – especially if you run a business in town.

Courtney said that, “The Billings community really loves to support local businesses and appreciates shopping on more of a personal level rather than just online.”

Just like the community supports RocHouse by shopping locally, Courtney said, “I am also constantly trying to support other locally owned businesses. It’s important that we all support each other and stick together.”

When asked what sets RocHouse apart from others in the same industry, Courtney said:

“My team and I go to about five markets a year and hand select pieces for our customers. We travel to New York, L.A, Dallas, and Las Vegas to stay up-to-date on the latest trends throughout the country.

It's such a rewarding experience being able to buy for the store as well as style our customers in the selected merchandise. Our demographic ranges anywhere from women in their 20's to women in their 80's.

Really, any woman who has a true appreciation for fashion is our customer. We love having pieces in the store that every woman from every generation can enjoy!”

When asked what challenges RocHouse has personally faced and how they’ve worked to overcome them, Courtney said:

“We’ve been in business for 24 years, so we’ve seen a lot.

Personally, we’ve overcome a recession and Covid and while both of those things were trying times for everyone, we’ve proved that we really can get through anything, but we can’t do it alone – the continuous support from our loyal customers is truly everything.”

Aside from doing business in the area, growing up and living life in Billings, Courtney is sure to have her tried and true favorites, so of course I had to ask for a few personal insights:

Courtney’s favorite thing to do in Billings is go out to eat (we have lots of places to choose from!) and see a show at the Alberta Bair or Pub Station

Her favorite spot for dinner is Buffalo Block and you can catch her ordering the oysters!

When spending time with her son, she loves adventures to ZooMontana or the trampoline park.

Billings is very family oriented, so it makes it easy to have a day full of fun, whether you’re doing it solo or with your kiddo in tow.

Lastly, because I’m in deep with the various communities around Billings as a real estate agent, I was curious to know if Courtney had a favorite community of her own (everyone usually does) and she said:

West End! In addition to RocHouse being located in this area, we also love to ride bikes here as a family and take in the views of the Beartooth Mountains.”
