Your Wellness Weekend Guide to Billings, MT

Over the last few months, I’ve made it a personal mission of mine to help people see how Billings, Montana is the best of all worlds.

From girls trips, to family vacations, and solo adventures, there’s truly something in the area for all people and personality types.

To help you see how that’s possible, the Weekend Guide series on the blog has been tailored to feature weekend itineraries and top suggestions for the foodie, outdoorsman, the couple and even a weekend with your kiddos.

In this guide specifically, we’re diving into a weekend round up for the wellness guru! So if you love all things health and wellness and are curious how that lifestyle fits into Billings and the surrounding areas, you’re in the right place.

I’ve got you covered from where to stay, what to do and, of course, where to eat!

Where to Stay

Like any weekend trip, you’ll want to book an accommodation that fits the vibe!

For my wellness junkies, there’s a few fun stays that are in close proximity to many of the activities in this itinerary, including:

  • The Northern Hotel - this is one of my top recommendations for anyone visiting Billings because it’s your classic city style luxurious hotel located right in Downtown Billings near many of the hot spots

  • Airbnb Townhome - this rental is located in one of Billing’s premier neighborhoods and has easy access to walking trails along the banks of the Yellowstone River

  • Cozy Airbnb Home - this rental is a wellness lovers dream featuring a private hot tub and sauna that you can use during your stay

Your Weekend Guide to Billings, Montana as a Wellness Guru

Once you’ve secured your stay, it’s time to plan your days!

This 3 day itinerary has been crafted for you to enjoy a wellness filled weekend in Billings and is packed full of ways to soak in some R & R paired with outdoor adventure, sightseeing and a few classic Montana moments along the way.

Consider this your very own health and wellness retreat located in the heart of the Rimrocks!

Day 1 (Friday Evening):

Upon your arrival at your home away from home, unpack and settle in before heading out to explore all of the fun that Billings has to offer.

Since travel day can be a little tiring, we’ll keep your first night in town pretty light so that you can rest and fuel up for all of the fun that’s ahead.

If you’re in need of some extra energy upon arrival, head to Revive to get their Jetsetter IV drip!

After that, walk off your jet lag with an afternoon stroll at one of the local parks along the Yellowstone River before heading out for dinner!

Two of my favorites include:

  • Riverfront Park - this park is located near a notable neighborhood, Josephine Crossing, and offers beautiful trail and walking areas centered around Lake Josephine.

  • Zimmerman Park - this park is one of the most popular places to explore the famous Rimrocks in Billings and if you’re the biking type, it has great trails for all experience levels. You can rent a bike at Spoke Shop!

After a quick stroll or hike to reconnect with nature, it’s time to fuel up for the evening before your big day tomorrow.

As a wellness junkie who values healthy, organic options, you can’t go wrong with Local Kitchen - it’s a local favorite (no pun intended 🤪) that serves up delicious bites for brunch, lunch and dinner.

If you want to treat yourself after your healthy meal, the peanut butter dessert is BY FAR one of the most popular desserts around town!

Day 2 (Saturday):

Rise and shine! Billings has some of the most beautiful sunrises and as a wellness guru, I have a feeling that you like to wake up early.

(If not, no shame - catching some extra Z’s while on vacay is definitely the name of my game, so I feel ya!)

But if you’re a sunrise lover, one of the best spots to start your morning is at Four Dances - this popular hiking area is located just outside of Billings and offers stunning views of the Yellowstone River.

If you prefer a gym setting or group class, my favorites in the area include:

After your morning workout, I know you’ll be ready for breakfast and Billings doesn’t run short of some amazing options.

If you’re the type that loves a classic breakfast (like eggs, bacon, biscuits and pancakes), Bernies, The Sassy Biscuit or Sophies will be your best choice!

But if you’re in search of smoothies, acai bowls or other wellness friendly options, I’d recommend The Local Berry!

After fueling up with your first meal of the day, it’s time to pick your own adventure (or a few!) that the area has to offer.

  • Visit the local Farmers Market 🧺

One of my personal favorite seasonal activities in Billings is the local Farmers Market that comes to town every July - October.

The Yellowstone Valley Farmers Market is located right in the heart of downtown Billings and does a great job of making sure the food at the market is grown within a 120 mile radius so you can be sure you’re getting TRUE local food.

The market also features vendors with ready-to-eat food so you can get your fix while visiting and enjoy some entertainment while you’re there, too!

  • Experience the ultimate wellness experience at a local day spa

From halotherapy, yoga, infrared saunas, footbaths and breathwork sessions, Onyx Wellness Studio and Spa is a wellness lover's dream!

You can book one (or multiple) of their services and have a relaxation filled morning before hitting the trails or river.

If Onyx is booked up, Restore Hyper Wellness is another great option!

  • Schedule a facial at Top Deck Medical

Nothing says self care quite like treating yourself to a facial, especially when you’re on vacay! Top Deck Medical is my go-to for all things esthetics and you won’t be disappointed with one of their spa-like services. 🧖🏼‍♀️

  • Treat yourself to a massage

A weekend full of R & R isn’t quite complete without a massage and Billings has some of the best day spas with AMAZING massage services!

A few of my favorites include Revive, Sanctuary Spa and MBody – make sure you schedule your appointment in advance so you don’t miss out on the chance to fully relax during your trip to Billings!

  • Kayak on the Yellowstone River 🚣🏻‍♀️

As mentioned earlier, the Yellowstone River is one of the most popular attractions in Billings and there’s TONS of parks around town that make the river easily accessible.

You can grab a kayak rental at Sunshine Sports and put in at Riverfront or Coulson Park for a fun float when the weather permits!

  • Attend a Wellness Inspired Workshop

If you’re looking for a fun wellness inspired workshop while you’re in town, I encourage you to check out Zest and Frae Everyday Goods

Zest is a kitchen and cookware store in Billings offering high quality cutlery, pans, cooking tools and more, but they also host unique classes and workshops, from knife skill classes, taco Tuesday and even dumplings from scratch, you can experience a fun evening in the kitchen.

Frae Everyday Goods is a marketplace that has created a simplified shopping experience for people who value sustainability and environmentally friendly products. They also host some amazing workshops throughout the year, including flower arranging, charcuterie classes and candle making!

When you get hungry for lunch, Off Main Deli & Bakery is a classic sandwich shop that also happens to have some of the best cookies in town for a sweet treat.

After filling up on food and adventure, you can head back to your stay to rest and relax before heading back out for one last night in town!

When you’re ready to head back out for your last evening in town, you can choose from a few fine dining options nearby – my favorites include:

  • TEN at the Northern Hotel (bonus if you’re already staying there!) - the menu changes based on the season, but you’re sure to find delicious apps, entrees and desserts

  • Walkers - a well-established downtown favorite, Walkers is another great choice for date night serving up a mix of international cuisine and western comfort foods in a casual yet urban setting.

  • NaRa - THE go-to spot for sushi and ramen lovers

  • The Granary - a 50 year landmark in Billings that has recently been remodeled with a modern design to match the upscale menu featuring your seafood favorites. I HIGHLY recommend the oyster selection!

After dinner, you can opt for a chill night in your relaxing accommodations with a sauna or hot tub session OR enjoy a beautiful sunset stroll at Lake Elmo

Day 3 (Sunday Morning):

Before you close out your trip, you can take one more workout class at one of my favorites listed above before grabbing a farewell coffee at Big Sky Coffee Roasters!

This wellness inspired trip to Billings is perfect if you’re traveling solo, with your spouse or with a group of friends, so if you’re in need of some major R&R, Billings is waiting for you!

Grab your Stanley cup, pack your newest active set and we’ll see you soon. 🥳
